Wacom displays are a great peripheral for those who like to draw digitally. Unfortunately, the price has made them too costly for many non-professionals. That’s set to change with the new Wacom One.
Yesterday at the CES tradeshow, Wacom announced its new Wacom One, with an MSRP of $399.95 (U.S. and Canada). Because of the lower price, the One should appeal to a wider range of digital creators.
According to the company, “Beginning artists wanting to work with digital media, visual thinkers who combine handwritten and drawn communication in their daily activities, and social media content creators needing to artistically enhance photos or video to develop engaging posts can all benefit from Wacom One.”
The Wacom One provides a more affordable entry point for those who would like to work directly on screen. Because it connects with Mac, Windows, and compatible Android operating systems, the Wacom One allows users to upgrade their existing computer or phone to a pen-enabled configuration, opening it up to the new pen-related features in Microsoft Office and other software applications, especially those built for creativity.
The One’s 13-inch display has 4,096 pressure levels and a full HD resolution (1920 by 1080 pixels), though it covers only 72 percent of the NTSC color gamut. The unit has an anti-glare treated surface and foldable legs. The product ships with a low-end Wacom stylus, but it’s also compatible with pens from some of leading manufacturers, such as Lamy, Samsung, and STAEDTLER. You connect the Wacom One via a provided USB cable.
The Wacom One purchase entitles you to a software bundle that includes a copy of Clip Studio Paint Pro, with up to six months of free use. Clip Studio Paint is a drawing application that’s designed for comics, manga, and similar visual media. Wacom’s Bamboo Paper application is also included, You can use it for note-taking and sketching. Additionally, you’ll be able to use the pen-enabled features in the Windows 10 and Mac operating systems.
